Grounds

Ranger StationThe Lake Murray Field Trial grounds are some of the best in the country. With rolling hills, hardwood groves, groomed fields and Lake Murray always on the edge, these grounds will test a dog. The National Field Trial Committee liberates many quail during the running of the trial but there are many wild coveys that have propagated throughout the years. Some of these coveys are easy to find and are located in logical areas but for the adventurous dogs that like to dig deep, they will be rewarded as well.

Base camp has many amenities. At the parking lot you will find electrical hookups for RV’s and living quarter equipped horse trailers. (This area can accommodate a limited number of vehicles and are on a first come, first served basis). At the back of the parking lot there are water faucets every 10 yards or so for the watering of dogs and horses. For the humans there are bathroom facilities that include men’s and women’s showers. For those who need it, a dump station is located on the west side of camp, adjacent to the shower house/ bathrooms. The Roundhouse

The wall of the shower house/bathrooms facing the parking lot is used to communicate event times and locations throughout the running of the trial. Also this is where you will find the most current running order for the stake that is being run.

For the self-contained campers, or those who prefer to stay at one of the local accommodations, there are other parking areas around the main horse barn. The horse barn features indoor and outdoor stalls. Also available for the horses are several outdoor paddocks, several large corrals and a few smaller corrals. Additionally you will find horse washing stations scattered around the horse facility. Except for the stalls, paddocks and corrals are reserved for the wrangler and the judges, all others are available on a first come first served basis.

For the dogs there are numerous outdoor kennels available. The dog kennels are also on a first come first served basis.

When traveling into and out of the field trial grounds it is not unusual to see wild turkey, deer and the occasional armadillo. Please keep a sharp lookout for deer for they often dart out in front of unsuspecting vehicles during the day and at night.
